The Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is a short, spectacular route in the Annapurna foothills that gives extraordinary mountain views in a compact itinerary. Perfect for travellers with limited time, this five-day trek packs a sunrise spectacle and intimate cultural encounters into a friendly, accessible walk. The highlight is the early morning at Poon Hill where the entire Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges glow in the dawn light, a Himalayan moment that lingers in memory.
The trail threads through terraced farmlands, rhododendron forests and Gurung villages where local hospitality is warm and traditional ways of life remain visible. This trek is ideal for first-time trekkers, photographers and those wanting a meaningful mountain experience without long days at high altitude. While the trekking is moderate, the scenery is relentlessly impressive and the rhythm of village life and teahouse stops makes the walk culturally rich and relaxing.

We drive from Pokhara to Nayapul then begin the trek through farmland to Birethanti and onwards to Tikhedhunga. The day includes pleasant riverside walking, charming villages and stone stair climbs that bring you into the hills.
This first day gently introduces you to the Annapurna foothills and the pace of trekking life; the teahouse at Tikhedhunga is cosy and perfect for an early night.
A notable part of today is the climb at Ulleri, long stone steps leading through rhododendron and oak forest. As you ascend, the air grows cooler and the views broaden, finally opening at Ghorepani, a village with panoramic outlooks.
Arrive at Ghorepani in the afternoon with time to enjoy mountain vistas, relax and prepare for the early morning ascent to Poon Hill.
An early hike to Poon Hill rewards you with a sunrise that floods Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and the surrounding peaks with golden light, an unforgettable spectacle that often rivals longer treks’ main highlights. After the sunrise you return to Ghorepani for breakfast and then walk along forested ridges to Tadapani.
Tadapani sits amid rhododendron and offers tranquil evenings and excellent vistas; this day combines emotional sunrise grandeur with quiet woodland walking.
Leaving Tadapani, the trail descends through forests into traditional Gurung villages and agricultural terraces. Ghandruk is one of the most picturesque settlements in the region and offers vistas of Machhapuchhre and Annapurna South.
Explore the village in the afternoon, visit the local museum or simply sit at a viewpoint watching clouds drift around the peaks, a gentle, rewarding day.
Today you descend to Nayapul, walking through farmland and small villages, and then return to Pokhara by road. This final day wraps the trek with easy walking and the comfort of returning to lakeside hotels and modern amenities.
The afternoon in Pokhara is yours to celebrate, shop for souvenirs and review the photos you took at Poon Hill, carrying a compact but rich Himalayan memory home.
